Easy Breazy Summer
Its officially summer and I am so excited for it. Summer 2012 is gonna be amazing, I can feel it. One of the many things I love about summer is eating fresh, delicous food and while my garden hasn't really gotten to the point that I can eat it from it yet I have been enjoying lots of fruits and veggies. I like eating food really simply in summer when it tastes the best. Snacking on raw cucumbers marinated in rice vinegar and spices is super easy and delish, you gotta try it. Just wash and peel or partially peel a cuke, slice it up, place in a bowl with rice vinegar (heads up on seasoned rice vinegars which sometimes contain high fructose corn syrup, if you care about that sort of thing, using your own spices and regular rice vinegar is just as good), some spices to taste (I used this Nanami Togarashi by S&B Foods from the Asian market which is a blend of chili pepper, orange peel, black and white sesame seeds,Japanese pepper, ginger, and seaweed along with salt and fresh ground pepper), and then let it marinate in the fridge for awhile or just eat if you have zero patience and are too hungry to wait because it well still be amazing. This is super easy and delicious and healthy, pretty much the bees knees of snacks. Another take is cayenne and lime juice which is also super tasty. I also had to add a couple pics of my cucumbers that I am growing on a trellis this year, which I am interested to see how that works out, aren't they awesome?!?!

Delish: Breakfast at Broder
I love going out for breakfast but lately I have grown tired of the usual scrambles and such and have been on the lookout for something unique...and, yay, I totally found it in the gem known as Broder on Clinton St. It's Scandinavian influenced and it is delicious to the max. First of all when you order coffee with cream it comes warm! Warm cream people, absolutely decadent and revolutionary. Of course, one cannot escape eggs for breakfast but here things are slightly different; baked eggs, potato pancaked, apple fritters, pickled beets, and smoked trout are common menu items. I had the apple fritters with two baked eggs and apple sausage with sour cream and syrup on the side. Um, it was so good. So. Good. My friends had baked egg hash that were great as well but the best part was their presentation, the cutest orange mini cast iron pan things and on wooden plates! I am telling you this place couldn't get any cuter if it tried. And, the best part is its so yummy. And, its served with flair. And, the place is adorable. And, the service is lovely. I love it. Go there....NOW!

A Day At The Farm
Here are some pictures from a day at the farm. I feel so lucky to be able to go there work, relax and rejuvenate. Things are finally blooming and its been beautiful. Now that everything is planted the days are filled with picking, making new beds, and random improvement projects. One of the perks is getting to take flowers home that didn't sell and having a house filled with flowers all summer. We also got to see a hive of honeybees in transit where they go from an all consuming flying buzz up above to a humming mass which you can kind of see on the picture of the birch tree branches. So cool, wildlife!

Delish...
Today I am writing about my favorite Vietnamese restaurant as of right now, its Pho Jasmine at 714 N.E.Kilingsworth just past Albina and it is amazing! Funnily, I avoided going into it for years even after it was recommended by multiple friends, I am not exactly sure why, I just didn't think it was going to be that great for some reason. I was totally wrong because it is awesomely delicious. I always get the same thing which I know is boring but its just that good. However, I have it on good word from others that their other dishes are just as yummy especially the vegetarian pho. I always get the grilled pork with spring rolls and rice noodles. I have been trying this dish all over town and this the best I have had hands down. The dish comes with a fish/vinegar sauce to put over it(use it all), diced cukes, shredded carrots, bean sprouts and the spring rolls are sliced into the bowl so you can mix it all up. The iced Vietnamese coffee is also wonderful. And, they have a front window filled with plants which makes me like them a little bit more. I love this place. Enjoy!
