My New Obsession.....

 I just found the BEST addition to your kitchen......pomegranate syrup! It is seriously amazing. So delicious, its sweet and tart at the same time. I read about it in one of Heidi Swanson's (from 101 Cookbooks) wonderful cookbooks and I am in love. It's included in an eggplant dish in the book which I am sure is totally yummy but I used it with roasted beets and the tart sweetness complements them perfectly especially in the spinach salad with gorgonzola cheese I made with it. I can picture it working in all kinds of dishes both savory and sweet. The possibilities are absolutely endless. Go get some, right now!

You have probably heard her sampled by Missy Elliott but may have not realized what exactly you've been missing. So let me introduce you to your new favorite R&B singer. Deconstructed Sausage and Vegetable Cassoulet.

I made a delish dish today, basically just a mash-up of sausage, beans, and veggies. Its super easy and quick plus it only uses one pan. I used pork sausage because I think it tastes awesome but you could use chicken or turkey sausage or even ground beef. You can also use any type of veggies you have around but I have to say this combo rocked. So its just sausage, 1 onion, some garlic (i like lots), a bunch of collard greens, 1 red pepper, a can of Cannellini beans, and spices to taste (I used cumin, chili powder, salt, and a little mustard, yum).

This quote from the wonderful movie Auntie Mame reminds me how I feel about music these days. There is so much music out there but I feel like I am in a musical rut, listening to the same things and not fully enjoying all that exists in the musical universe. So I am going to be looking for new bands both old and new and bringing them here to expand our musical horizons.

So my first band is the seventies all girl group Fanny. David Bowie called them extraordinary which is pretty much the best recommendation you could ask for in my book. This video also comes with trippy special effects and badass seventies style. Enjoy!

Heart of Gold

Its official......I am OBSESSED with gold. It used to be all about silver for me but these days I am so into gold everything. Case in point check out the cute British oxfords I just ordered of The Sacvenger and The Swamp Etsy shop.

I love 'em. Anyways, although I still love silver it must make room in my heart for gold. Ah gold......swoon. Recently I got a hand me down wooden wall shelf  from a friend and after much musing decided it would be WAY better off gold, of course. And so on one of Portlands many, odd sunny days this winter I set about spray painting my new shelf a beautiful gold to add to my small but hopefully growing collection of gold housewares and trinkets.

 

I love the color it turned out, its the perfect gold and fits in with the other shades of gold I have up on the wall. Now I want to spray paint everything gold!! Next up? Perhaps my rollerskates.
